Maxis recently introduced the MaxisONE plan – its most worry-free plan to date, bringing limitless talk and text, ‘always on’ internet and flat rate international roaming. The breakthrough plan is devised for customers who want “freedom to communicate” – to call and text without worrying about the month-end bill.
“As mobile internet becomes a more important part of our lives, we want customers not to have to worry about paying for voice calls and SMS, and to feel free when they communicate. We believe this is the best internet plan as it makes life simple and easy to use. Ultimately we hope to break free from traditional limits and provide a new worry-free mobile internet experience. With limitless talk and text and non-stop data experience over our fastest and widest network, we are stamping our leadership in the industry once again,” said Dushyan Vaithiyanathan, Maxis’ Head of Consumer Business at the media briefing.
The MaxisONE plan offers:
- Limitless voice calls (mobile & fixed) and SMS to all network
- ‘Always on’ internet – you will never be cut off even if you’ve finished your data quota. Continue to surf with free basic internet. To get back in to high speed data mode (3G/LTE), simple add a Data Booster pass from as low as RM10 for 200MB.
- Roam with one flat rate of RM38/day – worry-free roaming in 106 countries. Yes, without pay per-use data charges.
- New devices with MaxisONE plan – wide range of new devices offered, with three devices available for FREE with the plan.
The MaxisONE plan is as simple as they come, available in two plan options – MaxisONE plan lite, and MaxisONE plan:
Customers on existing postpaid plans can change or upgrade to the MaxisONE plan, as long as they are not bound by any contract.

So who is this plan for and how does this sit with other existing Maxis plans?
The MaxisONE plan sits in between talk-centric TalkMore and surf-skewed SurfMore plans. It caters to a heavy voice call and text user, yet does not sacrifice internet data. Additionally, subscribers get flat rate roaming.
Is ‘limitless voice calls and text’ really limitless?
In essence yes. However, just as ‘unlimited data’ with our internet broadband services, users are subject to a Fair Usage Policy. The Fair Usage Policy, IMHO is very generous, offering 3,000 minutes and 3,000 SMS from the first month. Hypothetically, that’s 100 minutes of voice calls and 100 SMS messages per day for 30 days. That’s incredible value. Yes it is! (updated 07/07/2014)
Do people really talk for 100 minutes and send 100 texts a day?
I don’t know. That’s just nuts.
What happens when I use up my data quota?
Maxis will not cut you off completely, as part of the ‘always on’ internet experience, your data speeds will be throttled to 64kbps keeping you connected. You can buy Data Booster Passes via the UMB menu or USSD or WAP portal.
Can I upgrade my monthly data quota?
The MaxisONE plan allows you to upgrade from 2GB up to a maximum of 6GB. Each 1GB upgrade costs RM30 and will be renewed at the end of the bill cycle.
Can my unused monthly data be rolled over to the following month?
No, unused data allocations cannot be carried forward, and this also applies to voice calls and text.
Am I entitled to supplementary lines with the new MaxisONE plans?
Yes, you can sign up for up to 2 supplementary lines – SurfMore 30 or Value Plus Internet 30.
Can I switch from my existing plan to the new MaxisONE plan and keep my number?
Yes you can, while also retaining your number. The only plans not eligible are iValue plans.
Are there any bundled devices with the MaxisONE plans?
Yes, device bundles are available, including the Huawei Ascend Y530 (free with a RM128/month, 24-month contract), HTC One M8 or Samsung GALAXY S5 (RM1,499 with a RM128/month, 24-month contract) and more.
Pros
- Are you nuts unlimited voice calls and texts to all networks
- ‘Always on’ internet
- Easy to upgrade, downgrade
- Easy to increase data quota
- Great for chatty people (sales/marketing)
- Fantastic for heavy texters
Cons
- Not suitable for heavy mobile data users (can get expensive at RM30/GB)
Verdict
The new MaxisONE plan simplifies yet expands Maxis’ postpaid plans at the same time. The new plans are skewed towards people who talk on the phone or text a great deal, and the ‘limitless’ proposition is an attractive one. Coupled with a few more tricks up its sleeve like flat rate roaming and bundled data, the plan is likely to appeal to those in the sales/marketing line and could be quite a cost-saver in the long run too.
