It’s a fact that Malaysians love to queue up for things. Is it our love for sweet deals and free things? Is it because we love the communal togetherness with likeminded people? Whatever the reason, Malaysians have proven to be willing to do what it takes to get what they want. Whether it’s K-pop concert tickets, buy-1-free-1 boba tea, cheap-AF-fried chicken…and smartphones. COVID-19? What’s COVID-19?
The Samsung Galaxy S20 series officially goes on sale today and roadshows are being held across the country at five locations: Mid Valley Megamall, Kuala Lumpur; Queensbay Mall, Penang; East Coast Mall, Pahang; Mid Valley Southkey, Johor; and Imago KK, Sabah. They run from 6 March until 8 March 2020.
With some delicious deals being offered, it’s no surprise that Malaysians came out in droves.
The early bird gets..a TV!
As you may know, Samsung ran the pre-order for the new Galaxy S20 series two weeks back, ending on 1 March. Some pre-order units have already been shipped out early and continue to be shipped out to customers. For pre-order buyers of the Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G, they receive a pair of Galaxy Buds+ worth MYR499 for free. Samsung Malaysia has also thrown in a surprise item in the bag—a Samsung Wireless Charging Pad, as discovered by a pre-order buyer two days ago.
For roadshow goers, Samsung has other perks lined up including a 128GB microSD card, wireless charging pad, and for the early birds (limited to 500 units nationwide)—a Samsung 50-inch UHD TV worth MYR2,599. That explains the queue, doesn’t it?
That’s not all, if you trade in any old camera, you’ll receive an instant MYR400 rebate on the purchase of a Galaxy S20 series phone.
As far as I can remember, Samsung Malaysia has always been generous with their pre-order and roadshow deals, and this time is no different.
My colleague from SoyaCincau, Nic Ker was at Mid Valley to soak up the atmosphere. He reported that the first in line, Colin Chong actually arrived yesterday (Thursday, 5 March) at 8.30AM to check if there was a queue. Seeing that there wasn’t, he returned at 4PM to begin queuing for his pre-order Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G. As previously, pre-order customers can choose to pick up their orders at the roadshow.
According to Chong, he took two days leave from his day job as a Maybank compliance officer for the roadshow. He told SoyaCincau that the main reason he was queuing had nothing to do with the roadshow goodies. On the contrary, it was the excitement of upgrading to the latest device that would get his “5G-ready.” Chong currently uses a Galaxy S9+, explaining that he changes his phone once every two years.
The roadshow at Mid Valley opens at 10AM, but an estimated 350 people were already in line as early as 8AM.
If you missed today, you still have a chance to get the Galaxy S20 with goodies.
