A leaked presentation deck from a credible source detailing U Mobile‘s upcoming yet-to-be-announced U MicroCredit financing plan for customers, reached us late yesterday. The industry-first plan has the key objective to make smart devices affordable to the mass market. The easy installment plan features low rates, fast approval, flexible repayment and easy online application.
U MicroCredit (UMC) is possible with an exclusive partnership with Berjaya Credit Sdn Bhd. With the plan, you can take home a smartphone for as low as RM98 per month.
What’s unique about the instalment plan is that it does not require a credit card.
To apply you can either submit and online application together with required documents at u.com.my/umicrocredit or visit a U Mobile branch or Premium dealers to apply for UMC.
Documents that are required for application are:
- Proof of income
- Two referees
The minimum requirements to apply for UMC are:
- Malaysian citizen
- Age 18 and above
- Minimum gross income of RM1,000 per month
Applicants must submit completed application forms together with supporting documents. Customer and referees must be contactable at numbers provided in the application form.
Within two hours, you’ll know if your application is approved. Once approved, you’ll just need to sign the agreement and make the first payment.
The U MicroCredit is set to be announced on 17 March in tandem with the big iPhone 6 launch by U Mobile. Both are unprecedented moves by the young telco, and major milestones in its short but vibrant history.
It is unclear if the plan will be widely available on 17 March, but we’ll certainly know next week.
Regardless, these are two big wins for Malaysian consumers.
