Huawei P40 Pro+ Malaysia: Penta-camera marvel now in White Ceramic

Huawei P40 Pro+

Another variant of the flagship Huawei P40 series—the P40 Pro+ is heading to Malaysia on 26 June 2020. The range-topping photography powerhouse will sport trick nano-tech ultra-durable white ceramic body.

Pricing and availability

The Huawei P40 Pro+ (8GB RAM + 512GB storage) retails at MYR4,999 and will be available in retail channels starting 26 June 2020. Each purchase of the P40 Pro+ comes with freebies worth MYR1,300 including a pair of Huawei FreeBuds 3, Huawei SuperCharge Wireless Charger Stand (max. 40W), free access to Huawei Video VIP (three months), dimsum entertainment, Qello Concert, and The Explorers.

In addition, you’ll get free 50GB storage on Huawei Cloud, as well as one-year extended warranty and one-month screen crack protection.

Features and specs

The new ceramic body involves a complex process involving kilning and polishing, engineered to be lighter and thinner, as well as clean and clear under light refractions. The ceramic body is almost as durable as sapphire, making the P40 Pro+ more scratch resistant compared to glass or metal. Because ceramic is non-conductive, the P40 Pro+ cools down much faster compared to other materials.

That aside, the ceramic body is also dust-, dirt-, sand- and water-resistant with a certified IP68 rating. It’s resistant to freshwater submersion of up to a maximum depth of 1.5m, for up to 30 minutes.

Photography powerhouse

Huawei’s P Series is synonymous with mobile photography and continues to push the boundaries of smartphone photography. The P40 Pro+ boasts the Ultra Vision Leica Penta Camera that comprises a 50MP wide-angle camera, a 40MP ultra-wide SuperSensing Cine Camera, an 8MP telephoto camera (10x optical zoom), an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 3D depth sensing camera.

The 10x optical zoom camera takes full advantage of the periscope design, supporting up to 100x digital zoom with a maximum focal range of up to the equivalent of 240mm on a standard camera lens.

Next, the P40 Pro+ also offers directional audio zoom, which allows you to zoom in on an audio source and amplify its sound.

The penta-camera system leverages on Huaweis artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. AI Remove Passerby and AI Remove Reflection intelligently remove unwanted objects and interference in your images, such as photobombers or reflections. Additionally, AI Best Moment picks the best of a series of moving shots and recommends the best picture for you.

Keeping things juiced is a large 4,200mAh battery which should be more than sufficient to power you through the day. However, in case battery charge gets too low for comfort, the P40 Pro+ supports 40W Huawei SuperCharge—both wired and wireless. This enables you to charge the device from zero to 70 per cent in just 30 minutes.

Under the hood, the P40 Pro+ packs a Kirin 990 5G, the top-of-the-line 7nm SOC that integrates a 5G modem, GPU and NPU.

For 5G connectivity, the Huawei P40 series supports both non-standalone (NSA) and standalone (SA) networking modes, as well as comprehensive support for 5G frequency bands.

For interconnectivity with other Huawei devices, you can use Huawei Share to connect the phone to the Huawei MateBook or MatePad.

The device supports face authentication as well as fingerprint authentication via its in-display fingerprint scanner.

AppGallery

On the software side of things, Huawei continues to rapidly grow its AppGallery ecosystem. It still has a long way to go compared to the breadth of apps that is offered by Google’s own Play Store. That said, you’ll find many of the most used and popular apps such as Facebook, WhatsApp, WeChat, Line, AirAsia, TikTok, Lazada, Touch ‘n Go eWallet, Maybank2U, FoodPanda, and more.

Check out the Huawei AppGallery Carnival that’s running from 19-30 June. Plenty of rewards and special deals to be found, as well as a chance to win from a pool of lucky draw prizes worth up to MYR2 million.
