After making a global appearance on the glitzy runway of Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW) 2019, the Huawei nova 5T officially launched to a global audience in Malaysia on Tuesday. The shiny device is the first in the nova series to feature a quad-cam system and will retail at MYR1,599.
Like its predecessors, the nova 5T continues to push the price-performance envelope, packing in everything but the kitchen sink into a desirable, fashionable piece.
There’s nothing much you don’t already know. The nova series, synonymous with photography and performance goes guns a-blazing with over-the-top quad-camera setup on the rear.
The AI-powered camera system comprises a 48MP f/1.8 (Sony IMX586) main shooter, 16MP ultra-wide-angle camera, 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth camera. The nova 5T also gets AIS Super Night Mode that makes it talented in low light conditions, too.
On the front is a whopping 32MP selfie camera, hidden discretely under the 6.26-inch FHD+ All-View display (1080×2340). Thanks to the little punch hole camera and near-bezel-less display, the phone offers an impressive 91.7 percent screen-to-body ratio.
As you may know, the nova 5T shares its underpinnings with the honor 20. You’ll find the familiar and powerful 7nm Kirin 980 CPU that comes with a dual-NPU. This is coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage featuring UFS 2.1 ultra-fast storage technology. No microSD in case you were wondering.
The dual-NPU makes new features like Spotlight Reel possible, where it automatically analyses your raw video footage, identifies the best frames of the subject selected to spotlight, then generates a 10-15 second short clip. It’s a lot like how GoPro’s Quik video app works, and possibly better.
Next, the device features a side-mounted fingerprint sensor—so no cut-outs on the body to disrupt the shiny back; but also means no fancy in-display fingerprint scanner tech.
Keeping the device juiced all day is a large 3,750mAh battery that features 22.5W SuperCharge technology. Huawei claims a 50 percent charge in just 30 minutes.
On the downside, you’ll notice that there is no 3.5mm headphone jack, so you’ll have to make do with a wireless solution or… an adapter.
Following the trend of organic, gradient-design backs, the nova 5T features a 3D holographic glass body with three gradient colours—Midsummer Purple, Crush Blue and Black.
Eye-catching for sure, with the monogrammed Midsummer Purple stealing the show.
The nova 5T runs EMUI 9.1 based on Android 9.
