Huawei Mate 20 Pro gets massive price slash ahead of Galaxy S10 launch

Huawei Mate 20 Pro

Huawei’s reigning flagship device – Mate 20 Pro is getting a massive price slash from its original retail price of MYR3,599. Starting 1 March 2019, the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model will retail for only MYR2,999. Is this move in anticipation of the impending launch of the Samsung Galaxy S10 in Malaysia?

Hypothetically speaking, seeing that the Mate 20 Pro’s successor isn’t due until at least Q3 2019, this may just hold some validity.

To compare, the Galaxy S10 retails for MYR3,299 (8GB RAM + 128GB storage) while the Galaxy S10+ will go for MYR3,699-MYR4,599 (8GB RAM + 128GB/512GB storage). The entry-level Galaxy S10e is priced at MYR2,699 (6GB RAM + 128GB storage).

The Mate 20 Pro can be purchased at all Huawei Experience Stores, authorised retailers, all major telcos, as well as the Huawei Online Store.

The phone has one impressive camera system, recognised as the best smartphone camera by DxOMark. Its triple-camera system received top billing, scoring an overall 109 points, tied with Huawei’s own photography-centric P20 Pro. Samsung’s latest entry – the Galaxy S10+, however, is also tied at the top.

The Mate 20 Pro (like the new Galaxy S10+) has one nifty new asset – an ultra-wide-angle lens, something the P20 Pro lacks. It comes in handy when you need to “show more” in a shot, or you’re caught in a tight spot but need to capture the whole scene. Its panoramic-like properties has been much talked about, and much loved by users.

That aside, the ridiculously good Night Mode is still an industry benchmark for low light smartphone photography.

Optics aside, the Mate 20 Pro packs beefy internals including the top-of-the-line 8nm octa-core Kirin 980 processor and a massive 4,200mAh battery. It charges via USB-C and supports 40W SuperCharge fast-charging.

The Mate 20 Pro also introduced reverse wireless charging as well as sporting a 6.39-inch dual-curved AMOLED display.

Theories aside, it’s a great time to pick up the Mate 20 Pro!
