HP unleashes OMEN Desktop, OMEN 15 and 17 gaming notebooks

OMEN by HP launch

After a hiatus, HP unleashes a slew of gaming-bred OMEN hardware targeted at esports athletes and competitive gamers alike. Leading the powerful pack is the OMEN Desktop, followed by the dynamic duo—OMEN 15 and OMEN 17 notebooks.

OMEN Desktop

One look and you’ll know that the OMEN Desktop means serious business. The purposeful, bold design breathes “hardcore gamer” with versatility and expandability in mind. The new tower easily lets you upgrade internal storage with accessible swing doors on the front panel; and internal components via the removable side panel.

The OMEN Desktop boasts high-performance graphics of up to dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti (SLI) or dual Radeon RX 580 (Crossfire). I’m literally salivating, typing these out. If you ever needed horsepower for your games… you know where to find it.

Working side-by-side is a choice of 7th Gen Intel Core i5 or i7 processors with unlocked options for overclocking.

The cool thing is the tower comes with thermal engineering from the get go—with all-around edge vents. There’s also optional liquid cooling, for additional thermal optimisations when overclocking.

In terms of storage, there’s optional PCIe SSD (oh yes) or SSD+HDD storage for super quick bootup, game loading and responsiveness.

Just as the OMEN Desktop looks fast standing still, the new portable gaming duo scream, “fasten your seat belt.” Touting a fresh new edgy design, the twin terrors offer more expansion capabilities, additional ports and better VR compatibility.

Under the hood, it’s all about performance. The OMEN 15 offers up to a Radeon RX 550 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with Max Q design for ultimate graphics performance.

Meanwhile, the OMEN 17 can be configured up to an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 or Radeon RX 580 that can push games beyond 1440p.

Both come with 7th Gen Intel Core quad-core CPUs and feature multi-fan, multi-heat pipe and multi-exhaust thermal solutions.

In the audio department, the notebooks boast DTS Headphone: X for 360-degree, immersive surround sound with a headphone plugged in. Otherwise, enjoy the integrated HP Dual Speakers with audio by Bang & Olufsen.

The Dragon-red backlit keyboard is optimized for gaming with accented WASD keys and white backlight. It also comes with 26-key rollover anti-ghosting, and full-size arrow keys.

Display-wise, you get a 4K display option, or a 120Hz 1080p option with NVIDIA G-Sync; or a 60Hz 1080p option with AMD FreeSync.

A single-access panel makes HDD, SSD and RAM upgrades fast and easy.
