HP Expands Ultraportable Notebook Portfolio with First Ultrabook

Company introduces four new notebooks and completes the user experience with HP Wireless Wi-Fi Touch Mouse.

HP, still the world’s No.1 PC manufacturer in the world despite its recent turmoils and uncertainties, has announced a slew of new ultraportables to expand its notebook PC portfolio.

The HP Folio13, HP’s first ever ultrabook, features a thin and light design powered by Intel Core processors and solid state drives (SSD). The Folio13 boasts a 9-hour battery life.

The redesigned HP ENVY15 is HP’s premium notebook with an Intel quad-core processor, marrying performance and advanced technologies with a touch of luxury. The HP Pavilion dm4 meanwhile, includes the latest Intel® Core processors, Beats Audio and 14-inch diagonal high-definition (HD)(2) LED display for a rich multimedia experience. The HP Pavilion dm4 Beats Edition offers an enriched listening experience with Beats Audio and delivers the signature black and red Beats Audio design to suit the style-conscious.

HP recently completed its strategic evaluation of its Personal Systems Group (PSG) and had decided the unit will not be spun off from the company. The news of the possible spin off of its PC business to concentrate on software a couple of months back shocked the industry. Only a tiny amount of HP’s business currently comes from software. Leo Apotheker‘s short-lived tenure as CEO was believed to be as a result of a spate of unfavourable announcements, including that of a planned purchase of infrastructure software vendor Autonomy and talk of spinning off HP’s PC division.

HP, now headed by ex-Ebay CEO Meg Whitman, has made it clear that it intends to make the leading PC business in the world even better. PSG has a history of innovation and technological leadership as well as an established record of industry-leading profitability. It is the No. 1 manufacturer of personal computers in the world with revenues totaling $40.7 billion for fiscal year 2010.
