The Honor View20 (V20 in China) makes its official debut in China. The latest flagship from Honor is the world’s first smartphone with a 48MP rear 3D TOF camera and a front in-screen “punch hole” 25MP camera.
Honor devices have always been about strong cameras, trendy design and amazing price-to-spec ratios, and the Honor View20 is no different.
The new flagship uses advanced nanolithography technology to create a unique nano texture on the body. The rear body gets a dynamic V-shaped colour gradient and is available in Phantom Red and Phantom Blue.
Honor also announced a crossover collaboration with Italian fashion brand Moschino to release an Honor X Moschino design edition.
In terms of optics, the Honor View20 brings things to higher ground. First, it’s the first smartphone to utilise the latest Sony IMX586 stacked CMOS image sensor – a 48MP whopper.
The 1/2-inch sensor with 0.8-micron pixel supports “Light Fusion” which combines four pixels into a super pixel for better low light performance. It can also produce a high resolution 12MP image, further enhanced by artificial intelligence (AI).
The rear camera also features 3D functionality, adding a new dimension to photos and videos.
With new Dual-ISP and Dual-NPU of the next generation Kirin 980 processor, camera processes and AI image processing is 46 percent and 134 percent better than its predecessor.
With the Honor View20, Honor effectively kills the notched display. The cutting-edge “punch hole” in-screen front camera heralds a new trend in full-screen displays.
Honor’s “All-View” display has a tiny 4.5mm hole on the top left corner to house the front-facing 25MP selfie camera. Instead of merely drilling a hole through the various layers of the screen, Honor uses a special technique called pixel transition technology – a super complex 18-layer technology stack. The technique ensures durability of the glass panel as well as cuts down the interference from light.
Speaking of display, the device features a 6.4-inch Full HD+ All-View display (1080×2310).
The Honor View20 comes with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and is powered by a 4,000mAh battery that supports fast-charging (4.5V/5A).
The dual-SIM, dual-LTE device does not come with expandable storage, and runs Android 9 Pie with Magic UI 2.0.1 out-of-the-box.
Another highlight is Link Turbo, a feature that combines Wi-Fi and 4G LTE connectivity for faster download speeds.
