Honor confirms flagship honor 8 Pro will get Android Oreo

honor 8 Pro

Honor’s best, most powerful device in its line-up–the honor 8 Pro will be getting the latest Android 8.0 Oreo update soon. The highly-anticipated update will bring a host of new features and enhancements, including decreased boot time and better security.

The honor 8 Pro is undoubtedly a well-rounded, powerful beast, and priced to kill. It gets its venom from Huawei’s top rated processor–the Kiron 960, and packed with a whopping 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

And it isn’t just pretty numbers on paper. Based on my hands-on impressions, this device is a scorcher indeed.

Don’t just take my word for it either. In just a month of its launch, the stunning flagship device completely sold out. Vmall, the official Huawei e-store, said the honor 8 Pro is one of its fastest selling models.

It isn’t all brawn of course. The honor 8 Pro also looks great, with its beautiful metal body and sleek silhouette measuring just 6.97mm thick.

It rocks a brilliant 5.7-inch QHD display, and packs a massive 4,000mAh battery that supplies it with a full day’s worth of juice. It supports fast-charging, by the way.

While it lacks Leica branding found on its Huawei cousins, the cameras on the honor 8 Pro are pretty top notch too.

It touts a dual-camera 12MP setup, you know the drill, one captures full RGB, while the other native monochrome.

The front is a more-than-decent 8MP selfie shooter with Wide Aperture and Beauty modes.

The device currently runs EMUI 5.1 based on Android Nougat, but stay tuned because a sweeter cookie is on the way.

Android Oreo will bring with it picture-in-picture (PiP) mode, more control over notifications, and comes with Autofill–a system that remembers your login to your favourite apps.

It will also be the most secure Android release yet, with Google Play Protect ensuring you’re protected from malware and malicious apps in the Play store.

Additionally, Oreo will introduce a double tap to wake gesture, as well as bring faster charging speed to the honor 8 Pro’s large 4,000mAh battery.

Android 8.0 Oreo will be coming soon, although honor has not quoted an exact release date.

Pricing and availability

The honor 8 Pro is priced at MYR1,999 and is available at VMall, honor experience stores and authorised retailers nationwide.
