Honda Malaysia today unveiled the Mugen Limited Edition body kit for its leading compact SUV—the HR-V. The HR-V is the third Honda model to carry Mugen upgrades after the Civic Concept Mugen 2.0 limited edition in 2006; and Concept M models for the Civic and Jazz in 2010.
The HR-V Mugen limited edition body kit consists of nine items including a front under spoiler, rear under spoiler, side under spoiler, tailgate spoiler, sporty decal, Mugen gearbox emblem, Mugen exterior emblem, front grille and carpet mat (not Mugen item).
Honda says the limited edition vehicle is the result of customers’ feedback requesting for a sportier appearance to complement the practical side of the HR-V. Unfortunately, the Mugen treatment here is strictly cosmetic, so for those looking for any sort of Mugen-tuned performance boost, sorry to burst your bubble.
Since its launch in 2015, the HR-V has proven to be a success, receiving registrations of over 65,000 units as at January 2018. It emerged as the second best-selling model in Honda’s expansive portfolio, contributing 17 percent of overall sales. It continues to be in a leading position in the compact SUV segment.
It’s not difficult to see why the HR-V has done so well. Known as the “Beauty with Brains,” the vehicle is loved for its spaciousness, user-friendliness, practicality and functionality.
Just as we’ve seen on cars like the Jazz, the HR-V showcases Honda’s prowess in space utilisation. There’s large legroom for both driver and passengers, while the Multi-Utility Cargo Space overs expansive trunk space through flexible rear seat configurations.
Headroom is also spacious, which enables easy movement of passengers and drivers in and out of the car.
The HR-V is powered by a 1.8L i-VTEC SOHC engine combined with Honda’s Earth Dreams Technology Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) for a smooth drive and fuel-efficient performance.
By the way, the HR-V is certified as an Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV).
As with other Honda models, safety is top priority. The HR-V is loaded with a plethora of active and passive safety features including a 5-Star ASEAN NCAP rating, six airbags (V variant only), Electric Parking Brake (EPB) and Auto Brake Hold (ABH), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) and Hill Start Assist (HSA).
Honda Malaysia says demand for its mini SUV is still high, but it is committed to fulfilling orders in a time manner. The current wait time remains between one to two months.
If the Mugen Limited Edition tickles your fancy, you can have a closer look or place a booking at any of 93 Honda’s Authorised Dealers from 5 March onwards. The limited edition vehicle is available from 13 March and 19 March onwards for Sabah and Sarawak respectively.
The exclusive HR-V Mugen is limited to only 1,200 units and is made available for the V variant of the SUV. The retail price is MYR118,800 (without insurance). To compare, the regular HR-V V spec costs MYR117,500. Check out prices here.
