Grid Autosport multiplayer beta races onto iOS

Grid Autosport Multiplayer iOS

Lauded as one of the best if not the best racing simulator on iOS, Feral Interactive’s Grid Autosport Multiplayer has just entered beta testing phase. You can try it out if you own select iPhone and iPad devices running iOS 12.1 or later.

Since its App Store debut in 2017, the racing simulator has been a hit with users, scoring an impressive 90 percent rating on Metacritic. I personally consider it the best racing simulator on iOS, for sure, also playing the game on a desktop PC.

The multiplayer version will allow users to connect and compete with each other online. The game publisher stated clearly that the beta is a test to “explore the feasibility of online multiplayer for racing games.” Which means, it may not make it as a shipping product.

That sounds like an absolute party popper.

Be a beta-tester

Anyway, here’s your chance to test the new online multiplayer mode. Feral is inviting users around the world to test. Unfortunately, places are limited—only 1,000 testing spots are up from grab, and you’ll need to install Apple’s TestFlight programme.

The beta is free to download, however, the condition is you must own Grid Autosport in order to play it.

You’ll also need one of these devices to be able to play:

  • iPhone 6 or later
  • iPad 2017 or later
  • iPad mini 2017 or later
  • iPad Air 2017 or later
  • iPad Pro

Another thing to note is that you’ll be prompted to sign up for an account at Feral Interactive.

I succeeded in signing up for the beta test and I’m currently testing it on my 2018 iPad Pro (3rd Gen) with a Playstation 4 DualShock controller.

I played a couple of rounds and was lucky to have one or two users in the lobby to compete with. The first round was on the Barcelona street circuit, racing in a John Cooper Works MINI.

The couple of races ran without a glitch. Just to be sure, a notification pops up after a round to ask if the beta ran OK.

I don’t know about you, but online multiplayer racing is absolutely fun.

See you at the circuit!
