There were plenty of cheers and roars from the 1,500-strong fans who turned up at Red Carpet Avenue, Encorp to catch ESPN Grandstand’s ‘Battle of the Reds’ event, where Manchester United edge Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford. The exclusive event organised by ESPN STAR Sports was hosted by START Sports’ Maxis Football Extra presenters – the uber hot Patricia Knudsen and funny-guy JD aka Jason Desmond. The atmosphere was incredible, and yes, as ESPN STAR Sports themes it as, ‘It’s Just like Being There’

There was plenty of lively action even before kick-off and during half-time as Patricia and JD hosted stage games with attractive prizes to be won. Attendees were also entertained at booths, games, displays and contests run by broadcast sponsor Maxis, associate broadcast sponsors MYEG and Wrigley, and broadcast partner, Astro. Fans were also treated to a mesmerizing performance by football freestylers.

I was there along with friends, fellow bloggers and members of the media to catch the exciting match between BPL’s giants. Free flow of food and drinks and vivid high-definition footage. What more could a footie fan ask for? And what a game it was! Man U’s Wayne Rooney drew first blood at the start of half time and within 5 minutes, scored another. Liverpool came back guns a-blazing and were rewarded with a goal from Luis Suarez. The goal re-ignited the Reds, and saw them fight bravely till the end. However, it wasn’t enough to stop a Manchester United victory. Captivating till the end. Now that’s great football!
