The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has released the schedule for interstate travel in a press conference in Bukit Aman today. Interstate travel is specifically for city folk who have been stranded in their hometowns before the Movement Control Order (MCO) came into effect.
People are urged to update their Gerak Malaysia app to version 2.0. The updated app will allow all applicants to enter the origin and destination for interstate travel. The Android version is available now while the Apple version is expected to be rolled out tomorrow.
According to PDRM, they have received 503,276 applications for interstate travel via the Gerak Malaysia app to date. Registrations came to a close on 1 May 2020. They added that over 1,000,000 Malaysians have downloaded and registered via Gerak Malaysia.
For those who have applied, they will not receive any notification or new QR code. Once applied, they can proceed to travel according to the schedule as below:
- 7 May – From Kuala Lumpur
- 8 May – From Perak, Johor and Kelantan
- 9 May – From Perlis, Kedah, Pulau Pinang, Melaka and Pahang
- 10 May – From Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Terengganu
PDRM explained that applicants who are travelling with family (individuals aged 16 and above) must also register via the app.
Those who have no access to a mobile phone and are unable to register for Gerak Malaysia can apply at the nearest police station. Individuals must make an appointment prior to visiting, between 4 to 6 May.
Please be reminded that during the MCO, there will be no food facilities at rest and recreation areas (R&R) along the highways. Prayers rooms will also be closed and any prayer activity or gatherings are not allowed at R&R areas including open spaces and parking lots.
However, public toilet facilities will continue to operate. Road users are allowed to rest at parking areas within their own vehicles and are allowed to leave the vehicle only to use the toilets. Also, petrol stations will only be operating between 6AM to midnight along the highways.
PDRM reiterates that balik kampung during Ramadhan and Hari Raya is strictly prohibited.
Earlier, the government urged private companies to not take action against workers who do not turn up to work in time for 4 May, as they will need to adhere to the travel schedule released by the police.
Likewise, for the public sector, civil servants are given leeway and can return to work once they’ve returned home from their hometowns based on the stipulated travel schedule.
As part of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) announced on 1 May, almost all economic sectors and business activities are allowed to resume operations starting 4 May 2020.
