SOCAR, car-sharing service provider, has announced that its fleet of vehicles has hit a 300-car milestone. To celebrate this achievement, it is offering an enticing promo where you can book a car from as low as MYR3 per hour, or MYR30 per day. Whether it’s for a short stint or an overnighter, it’s a great time to give the service a try.
For those uninitiated, the South Korean car-sharing startup entered the Malaysian market in January this year. Malaysia is the first country in its Southeast Asian expansion, a testament to the high level of mobile penetration and great infrastructure.
SOCAR aims to bridge the gap in the existing transport system, and is a proponent of “multi-flexing” whether you’re taking public transport like the bus, LRT, MRT of Komuter; ride-hailing services like Grab and MyCar, or even bike-sharing namely Mobike and Obike.
The startup kicked off its service in the Klang Valley with 200 cars, with plans to grow its fleet to 1,000 cars by the end of the year.
While it expands its fleet and increases accessibility of its vehicles, one thing remains the same: affordability.
Rates start from as low as MYR8 per hour with four types of cars offered including the Perodua Axia, Honda City, Honda HR-V and the popular MINI 3-door. SOCAR plans to add more variations to the fleet including hybrid vehicles.
The great thing about SOCAR is that petrol is included in the fee (up to 30km per hour or 300km per day). There’s an included petrol card in the car so that you can fill up when you’re running low. As a general rule of thumb, petrol levels need to be at least 50% when you return the vehicle.
Talking about returning the vehicle, you’ll never ever have to hunt for a parking spot because ever SOCAR vehicle has a designated spot.
The super cool thing is that everything runs from the SOCAR mobile app. From registering for an account, booking a car, locking/unlocking your booked car. Easy peasy.
The promo
As mentioned, SOCAR is running promo, valid from 7 until 13 May 2018. It is offering a couple of different vehicles in its fleet. The most affordable is the Perodua Axia, which you can book from just MYR3 per hour or MYR30 per day. This is a huge savings from the regular MYR8 per hour or MYR80 per day rate.
Here are other vehicle options to consider:
- Perodua Alza – MYR4 per hour or MYR40 per day
- Toyota Vios/Honda City – MYR5 per hour or MYR50 per day
- Honda HR-V – MYR6 per hour or MYR60 per day
Unfortunately, the ever popular 3-door MINI Cooper isn’t included in the promo, but it is still available at its regular rate.
