Looking for a thin and light workhorse without breaking the bank? You can have all that plus some cheerful colours with the new ASUS VivoBook S15 (S530). Bold and lightweight, the new notebook also comes with the unique Ergo Lift hinge that replicates the feel of typing on a desktop keyboard.
You’re not going to find a tinge of a boring conventional notebook with the VivoBook. Injected with striking hues of Firmament (what?) Green, Star Grey, Silver Blue, Gun Metal, and Icicle Gold, the new VivoBook has plenty of personality and bold style.
Firmament Green features a textured woven finish surrounding the keyboard, while Icicle Gold sports a brushed finish with diamond-inspired motifs.
ASUS’ proprietary Ergo Life hinge tilts the keyboard by 3.5 degrees when the notebook is opened, giving it a desktop keyboard-like experience. But that isn’t the only reason why it rocks. The hinge also opens up extra ventilation space for more airflow, delivering more improved cooling.
The keyboard itself is full-sized, ergonomically-designed with 1.4mm key travel.
There’s an optional fingerprint sensor built into the touchpad for easy one-touch access via Windows Hello.
What you’ll notice the incredibly thin bezels around the display. ASUS calls this the NanoEdge design, first on the VivoBook S15. Narrow bezels on the top and sides gives the S15 an incredible 86 percent screen-to-body ratio. The display itself is a 15.6-inch FHD (1980×1080) panel that offers a wide viewing angle and exceptional colour reproduction.
Despite being a 15-inch device, the S15 weighs only 1.6kg and measures as thin as 18mm at its thinnest point.
But don’t let its colourful demeanour fool you. The S15 is powered by either an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8550U or i5-8250U processor with up to 16GB DDR4 2400 RAM, paired with the NVIDIA GeForce MX150 with up to 2GB GDDR5 VRAM.
It features a dual-storage design: 1TB HDD with 128GB or 256GB SSD.
ASUS Wi-Fi Master technology that offers dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi promises uncompromising connectivity with great range. Top speed is up to 867Mbps which is 6X faster than 802.11n.
In terms of expansion ports, the S15 includes a USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 1 port, USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A and USB 2.0 ports, HDMI output as well as a microSD card reader.
Expect all-day battery life with the S15’s 3-cell, 42Wh lithium-prismatic battery. Via USB Type-C, it can fast-charge from 0-60 percent in just 49 minutes.
The VivoBook S15 comes with Windows 10 Home out-of-the-box.
