How much is 1+2+3? Not 6 apparently. At least not if you type the numbers, symbols and equal signs quickly. The much-talked about (and embarrassing) iOS 11 bug has left users baffled and the Android camp in stitches for a better part of last week. The good news is, Apple has fixed this in iOS 11.2 Beta, seeded to developers earlier today.
In all versions prior to iOS 11.2, a calculator animation causes symbols to be registered in a delayed manner (or in some cases not at all), when entered together with numbers in rapid succession.
If you type 1+2+3 quickly, you’ll likely get the result of 24, as opposed to the correct 6. Count yourself lucky, I keep getting 234.
To rectify the problem, Apple has removed animations from the Calculator app, so input and response is instant when numbers and symbols are pressed.
In addition to the fix, iOS 11.2 introduces a new Now Playing option for controlling content on Apple TV in Control Center; redesigned camera emoji; and new loading animation for Live Photos effects.
For the record, the latest official consumer release standards at version 11.0.3. Those on Apple’s Beta Program can download and run iOS 11.1 Public Beta.
iOS 11 was officially released to all Apple mobile devices on 19 September, with huge focus on the iPad. The big update introduced a slew of new features including a redesigned Lock screen, customisable Control Center, a more natural Siri voice, a redesigned App Store, new HEVC and HEIF codecs and an overhauled UI for the iPad.
