This is pretty epic news. Grab users from Southeast Asia who are travelling to the US can now book rides in over 200 US cities. This seamless two-way integration is thanks to a global rideshare agreement between Grab, Didi Chuxing, Lyft and Ola in December 2015.
Get this: the global rideshare agreement reaches nearly 50% of the world’s population, including millions of international travelers across China, Southeast Asia, the US and India, yearly.
According to Grab, one in nine smartphone users in SEA are Grab users, with access to the largest land transport fleet in the region including taxis, private cars and motorbike services.
The Grab-Lyft partnership will also give Lyft users in the US access to rideshare services in 30 cities across six countries in SEA.
International arrivals in SEA totaled 106 million in 2015, and this is expected to increase to nearly 200 million over the next 10 years. American tourists are among the top travel spenders in the Asia Pacific region, spending US$231.6 billion in 2016.
Grab users traveling in the US will be able to book both Lyft and Lyft Plus rides through the familiar Grab app. Meanwhile Lyft users traveling in SEA will be able to book GrabCar and GrabTaxi rides through the Lyft app.
For a seamless ride experience, all rides are cashless and transacted via credit card or PayPal wallet.
The Lyft integration in the Grab app is operational now, and you can start booking Lyft rides in the US via the Grab app. Grab integration in the Lyft app will be available in the coming weeks.
