It’s a long time coming, but Yes 4G is definitely back. And back in a big way. After a soft introduction of its 4G LTE services at the launch of the Samsung Galaxy J1 two weeks ago, the service is officially launched today.
Yes 4G brings to market several key milestones. Firstly, it’s the first mobile operator in the country to introduce Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE)– high definition, crystal clear calls over its all-IP network. VoLTE will be the latest buzzword moving forward, and Yes 4G will have an early upper hand in the telco space. Having tasted VoLTE first hand, I think consumers will appreciate the quality of the audio.
VoLTE supports HD voice and video calls, up to 3x and 6x times better quality respectively, compared to calls made on 3G/2G networks.

Next, as mentioned by YTL Communications CEO Wing K Lee, Yes has an impressive 85% nationwide population coverage, making it the largest 4G network in the country. This is possible by building its 4G LTE services on top of its existing WIMAX footprint, and new LTE networks, built by Samsung. It currently has over 4,300 base stations, and growing. Yes says it has invested MYR4 billion to build its network to date.
Next, it has unveiled the Yes Altitude, the ‘most affordable VoLTE smartphone in the Malaysian market.’ This is a similar strategy Yes employed when it rolled out its 4G Eclipse phone in 2011, one of the few WIMAX-based phones in the world.
