After making its global debut in India in mid-January this year, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is now officially in Malaysia. Pre-orders for the mid-range stunner start today at 12AM, 10 March 2017. Open sales of the device will commence on 16 March.
As mentioned earlier, the Redmi Note 3 was one of my favourite Xiaomi devices of 2016, and probably the best device for under MYR1,000. It’s not hard to see why it’s so good. It’s well-built, with an elegant design, and packed with plenty of flagship-level specs. In India, the Redmi Note 3 was a runaway hit, becoming the highest-shipped smartphone ever in the online space (IDC, 2016). It shipped over 3.6 million units, btw. No joke.
On to its successor – the Redmi Note 4. Now, Xiaomi didn’t reinvent the wheel in any way, but kept the value proposition well intact, and then some.
Sporting a premium curvy metal body with anodized high-gloss aluminium lines, it’s also the first Redmi device to feature 2.5D curved glass on the front. The new Matte Black colour option is stunning, by the way (alongside Dark Grey and Gold).
Moving on, like the Redmi Note 3, it packs a 5.5-inch Full HD display on the front. No surprises here.
Under the hood though, lies some of the goodness that you’ll appreciate. The Redmi Note 4 uses the new Snapdragon 625 processor, built on 14nm FinFET technology. It’s actually the first chip in its class to use the tech. As you know, the smaller the silicon, the better the power efficiency and heat dissipation.
With that in mind, the combination of the new chip and the massive 4,100mAh battery translates to much better battery life. 25% more in fact, over the Redmi Note 3.
In the optics department, you’ll get a more than decent 13MP f/2.0 BSI sensor with PDAF and large 1.12-micron pixels. On the front is a 5MP f/2.0 selfie shooter.
There are actually two storage options, however, Xiaomi is bringing in the 32GB (Gold) version first. The Dark Grey/Black options will hit the market at a later time. Xiaomi also says it is working hard to also bring the 64GB in soon.
The Redmi Note 4 runs Second Space with MIUI 8. Second Space is Xiaomi’s implementation of a multi-account environment.
