Announced in Madrid a couple of days ago, the Xiaomi Mi A2 and the Mi A2 Lite are set for a Malaysian debut very soon. Expect the Android One-powered devices to be competitively priced, and if the pricing of the predecessor is any indication, then expect a price range of around MYR900-MYR1,200.
Based on the global launch, there are three configurations offered for the Mi A2. The base model offers 4GB RAM + 32GB of storage, while the mid-tier will feature 4GB RAM + 64GB of storage.
What’s interesting is that Lazada Malaysia has listed the highest spec model – 6GB RAM + 128GB of storage for MYR1,199, a rather compelling price point. This will put the Mi A2 in the same bracket as the ASUS ZenFone 5 and Huawei nova 3i.
It isn’t available for purchase just yet, although retailer Mobile2Go is offering imported units of the 4GB RAM + 32GB storage model for MYR928.
The original Mi A1 launched at MYR1,099 for the 4GB RAM + 64GB model, so we may see the new Mi A1 priced similarly.
To recap, the Mi A2 features a 5.99-inch Full HD+ 18:9 display protected by Gorilla Glass 5. It’s powered by a powerful but efficient Snapdragon 660 chipset mated to up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
It comes in an aluminium unibody measuring just 7.3mm thick and is offered in Black, Gold and Blue.
It impresses in the camera department, boasting a 12MP f/1.75 + 20MP f/1.75 dual-camera setup on the rear and a 20MP selfie shooter with AI beautification. The new cameras support pixel binning that results in better low light photos.
The dual-SIM device comes with a 3,010mAh battery that supports QuickCharge 3.0 and charges via USB Type-C.
It does not have a headphone jack and runs Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box. Read more about it here.
The Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite are expected to debut in Malaysia on 31 July 2018.
