The impressive new ASUS ZenFone 5 is now available all at ASUS authorised resellers nationwide. The Intel Atom-powered device impressed the media folk at its regional Jakarta launch recently, and now will reach eager consumer hands.

The ASUS ZenFone 5 is equipped with a bright 5-inch IPS HD (294PPI) display, and wrapped in a pleasing design that tapers to just 5.5mm at its thinnest point.

At the heart of the snazzy new device is the new crop of energy-efficient Intel Atom processor – the dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 processor (“Saltwell”) running at 1.6Ghz mated to the venerable PowerVR SGX 544MP2 GPU. ASUS has made a slight change to the final spec too, throwing in an additional 1GB for a total of 2GB RAM to the ZenFone 5. Great move.

Built-in storage is 8GB with an option to expand via microSD.

If there’s one aspect that has grabbed the attention of the media world at large is the 8MP f/2.0 main camera with BSI and digital image stabilisation. With ASUS’ PixelMaster technology, light sensitivity is increased by 400%, resulting in great low-light performance whether in still photos or video.

The bundled battery is rated at 2,1100mAh which should ensure whole-day battery life.

Priced at RM599. the ASUS ZenFone 5 is one of the pleasant surprises of 2014.
