Wiko Y61 Malaysia: More for less

Wiko Y61

French smartphone maker Wiko has had a quiet 2020. The good news is it has broken its silence and is back doing what it does best—delivering “cheap and cheerful” products. The latest Y61 delivers some big features at its signature small price point—just MYR299, to be exact.

First thing you’ll notice is the large 6-inch FWVGA+ display (960×480) in 18:9 widescreen format. It’s an IPS panel mind you, impressive when you consider its price point.

The display is housed in a polycarbonate body with a glossy finish, available in Deep Grey, Deep Green, and Gold colour options. It isn’t bad looking at all, looking more glass than el-cheapo plastic.

Under the hood, it gets a sensible quad-core MediaTek MTK6761WE processor with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage with the option to expand via microSD.

The dual-SIM 4G device surprisingly offers Face Unlock, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and even a dedicated Google Assistant button.

The 3,000mAh battery still charges via micro-USB, which isn’t a surprise in this segment of the market.

In terms of optics, it offers a single 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing camera.

It runs Android 10 Go Edition, a full-featured but lighter version of Android. It’s packed with the essentials you need including Camera Go, Gallery Go, and Lens Go.

Pricing and availability

The new Wiko Y61 retails for just MYR299. For a limited time only, get a free gift with each purchase of the Y61 at retail stores (until 7 July 2020).

Each unit comes with a standard one-year warranty and as an added bonus, it is covered by a one-to-one exchange warranty within 120 days from the date of purchase (T&C apply).
