WD yesterday announced the expansion of its award-winning WD Red line of SATA hard drives for home and small office NAS (network attached storage) systems – now in 5TB and first-to-market 6TB capacity.

Red gets more

Optimised for power and performance, WD Red 3.5-inch hard drives now ship in 1TB to 6TB capacities. The new WD Red Pro 3.5-inch hard drives on the other hand, ship in 2TB to 44TB capacities.

All WD Red drive variants are compatibility tested with top NAS system manufacturers.

With the new 5TB and 6TB configurations, WD also announced NASware 3.0, an enhanced version of WD’s orignal NASware technology suite. With NASware 3.0, WD drives support up to eight-bay NAS systems with no negative impact on performance.

In addition, 3D Active Balance Plus improves overall drive performance and reliability. WD Red customers also get free premium 24×7 dedicated support.

Go pro

The WD Red Pro line is ideal for medium to large business environments, supporting eight to 16-bay NAS systems.

Green grows

WD also upgraded its WD Green line, adding 5TB and 6TB to its portfolio. The high capacity 6TB drives integrate seamlessly with WD’s storage solutions – WD My Cloud, WD My Cloud EX2, WD My Cloud EX4, WD My Cloud personal cloud storage, as well as My Book and My Book Duo.
