Unifi deploys Malaysia’s first TDD pre-5G wireless technology

Moharmustaqeem Mohammed, Acting EVP, unifi

Telekom Malaysia’s unifi at its #khabarbaik media event today revealed that it has deployed the nation’s first pre-5G infrastructure via Time Division Duplex (TDD) technology. The project, started in Q4 last year has entered commercial phase at SetiaWalk Puchong, the perfect location due to its mixed development of residential blocks, mall and offices.

Moharmustaqeem Mohammed, Acting Executive Vice President, unifi, said that TDD pre-5G massive MIMO technology helps improve unifi’s wireless connectivity services especially for high-rise buildings and dense residential areas with low fixed broadband penetration. This allows wireless internet access sharing in homes and on-the-go within LTE coverage areas. The project also addresses many ongoing infrastructure challenges in areas without fibre coverage especially for Streamyx customers. It will offer speed upgrades of up to 30Mbps via wireless broadband, with peak throughout up to 80Mbps.

The new TDD network can deliver larger capacity of around 500Mbps, two times faster than existing 4G technology. This enables better, more consistent experience for users on fixed wireless home broadband and also unifi mobile.

There are no changes to current unifi packages, although as unifi announced, SetiaWalk residents and tenants will enjoy double the internet quota to 120GB starting from 7 April 2019 until the end of April 2019. Unifi currently offers the same Huawei B618 4G wireless broadband with the MYR79 plan.

Unifi says it will roll out more sites depending on requests from customers.
