Malaysian telcos have been busy throwing massive amounts of data to customers of late. The question is: what do we do with this data tsunami? Today, U Mobile isn’t going to help you use up all that data. Instead, it’s giving you even more. It’s literally paying you to watch streaming video.
U Mobile’s new Video-Onz feature is made for binge watchers. If you’re one of those who watches video after video on YouTube, or episode after episode on iflix, then this is absolutely heaven sent.
The two best words: Unlimited free
You see, Video-Onz gives you 24/7 unlimited free video streaming without consuming your monthly data quota. This is available for postpaid customers with HERO Postpaid P70 and above; i90 and i130 plans. If you’re not subscribing to these plans, fret not. U Mobile is giving you 100% extra data quota, just for Video-Onz.
This simply means that if you’re on the P50 postpaid plan with 5GB, U Mobile will throw in an additional 5GB for you to binge watch videos. For free.
Onz or not?
And wait, this option isn’t just for postpaid customers. Prepaid users with an active UMI/MB data plan will also get 100% extra data for Video-Onz.
U Mobile currently has 11 video content partners, namely:
- YouTube
- Viu
- Iflix
- Youku Tudou
- Tonton
- ErosNow
- Herotalkies
- OnFM
- Pocketimes
- Astro on the go
- Hypp TV Everywhere
U Mobile is also throwing in two months free access to HyppTV Everywhere and 60 days free premium access to Viu.
Note that Video-Onz has a speed cap of 1.5Mbps, which is good enough for HD quality content. Since you’ll be watching on your smartphone and not your TV screen, this shouldn’t be much of a quality penalty.
If you do require higher definition video, you can turn Video-Onz off by sending an SMS “OFF VIDEOONZ” to 28118.
Video-Onz is available starting tomorrow, 29 April 2016 and this offer is valid till 31 July 2016. You can track your Video-Onz usage via the U Mobile app.
Initial impressions
This is pretty cutting-edge stuff from U Mobile. First setting benchmarks with its HERO Postpaid, POWER Prepaid then recently U Data Roam and Data BackPack, it is again pushing the envelope in terms of value.
Another reason to love the orange telco. What do you think?
