A little less than a month ago, Apple Store Online revealed the official pricing for the ‘tiny but mighty’ iPhone SE. Based on Facebook postings by Apple resellers Mac City and Switch, it looks like Apple’s most affordable smartphone is hitting stores on 13 May. If you prefer to grab one together with a telco plan, then U Mobile may just be your best bet.
If you can recall, last year, U Mobile broke the norm of the local telco industry to offer the Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus for the first time – traditionally only offered by the “Big Three.” It also introduced the first-ever device financing program offered by a telco – U MicroCredit.
It effectively became the best, most flexible, and most affordable way to own the flagship iPhone.
Later in the year, it introduced its Flexi U MicroCredit plan for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, making it even more flexible to own devices.
It recently also rolled out its UPackage iPhone 6s ‘all-in-one’ interest-free instalment plan – a postpaid iPlan combined with device instalment in a convenient package.
It looks like it isn’t stopping there. It’s now first to reveal plans for the new iPhone SE.
U Mobile iPlan
The official retail pricing for the iPhone SE is MYR1,949 for 16GB, and MYR2,449 (incl. GST). U Mobile is offering the device for as low as MYR40/month with a 24-month iPlan.
The iPlan bundles are as below. Prices listed are subsidized iPhone prices.
iPhone SE 16GB
- i40 – MYR1,425
- i60 – MYR1,305
- i90 – MYR1,065
- i130 – MYR705
iPhone SE 64GB
- i40 – MYR1,850
- i60 – MYR1,730
- i90 – MYR1,490
- i130 – MYR1,130
With iPlan bundles, there’s some upfront payment involved, which will be rebated over 24 months. For i40, it is MYR240 (MYR10 x 24 months); i60 is MYR360; i90 is MYR600; and i130 is MYR960.
Postpaid and prepaid plans are essentially the same except for call and SMS rates, and postpaid plans have the ability to share calls/SMS/data to up to 3 SIMs.
U Mobile instalment plans
What U Mobile is famous for though, is its U MicroCredit Instalment Plan and UPackage – the most flexible, affordable way to own the iPhone SE (or any iPhone for that matter).
There are two U MicroCredit options – one with full financing that lets you bring home the iPhone SE for as low as MYR58/month. If you only require a partial loan, Flexi U MicroCredit is your best bet.
With U MicroCredit, you have the flexibility of repayment of up to 36 months; no deposit, no collateral and no credit card is required.
On the other hand, the UPackage Instalment Plan is probably the most convenient all-in-one iPhone plan. Just select an iPlan with your iPhone SE, and pay a low monthly instalment.
For instance, you can take an i40 plan and pay a low monthly instalment of MYR104 (MYR64 iPhone + MYR40 plan). Again, this is based on a 24-month tenure, exclusive of GST.
Still the cheapest
If buying outright is your thing, then U Mobile is the best place to do so. Grab the iPhone SE 16GB at MYR1,665 on the i40 plan, inclusive of upfront payment; or the 64GB at MYR2,090. Since you’re not tied to any contract, you can leave at any time (if you don’t care about upfront payment rebates).
U Mobile is encouraging you to buy the iPhone SE on 13 May for the best savings.
