As if to give Apple a slap at their own (patent) game, an enterprising Chinese manufacturer has released the GooPhone I5 (where do they come up with this names?) which bears an uncanny resemblance to numerous leaked photos of Apple’s soon-to-be-released iPhone 5.

The GooPhone I5, despite its iPhone 5-ish looks, runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and is powered by Appleple A6XX processor. Ok, we’re kidding. It packs a quad-core 1.4Ghz Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, 1GB RAM, 8MP camera and a 4-inch display. Not bad where hardware specs is concerned.
But heck, never mind the looks and the specs, because according to reports, the opportunist Chinese manufacturer has also filed a patent on the design and won’t hesitate to take Apple to court when the iPhone 5 is released. They are also considering blocking the iPhone 5 for sale in China.
Go ahead, laugh.
This brings the patent wars to a whole new level. Imagine patenting a stolen design that was leaked on the internet. Shamelessness and bravery know a new face.
Fabulous. China-style.
