Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Google wants you to choose your side

Google Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The Force is strong in this one. Google has jumped in on the Star Wars: The Force Awakens bandwagon and wants you, Young Padawan, to choose your side. It’s bringing the Star Wars experience across Google apps including Gmail, Google Maps and more.

You’ll need to sign in to your Gmail account to experience the full power of the Force, except for Google Search, Google Translate and Waze. It however, doesn’t work with Google Apps for Work, Education or Government accounts.

Don’t worry if you change your mind on the side your choose. You can head back to www.google.com/starwars, and drag your avatar to your preferred side (you traitor!)

Note that it may take a few hours for the Force to awaken across all your apps, so be patient.

Google Apps that are Force-fed include:

  • Android Wear
  • Chrome
  • Chromecast
  • Gmail
  • Inbox by Gmail
  • Google Calendar
  • Google Maps
  • Google Now
  • Google Search
  • Google Translate
  • Waze
  • YouTube

The experience will work across all Android phones and tablets, iPhone, iPad, Mac and Windows laptops, and Chromebook.

What’s also cool is that Star Wars events are added to your calendar so you’ll never miss them.

You can keep track on whether the Dark Side or Light Side is winning globally by looking at the indicator on the main screen. #ChooseYourSide and share your path of choice to the world via social media.

If you’ve decided you’re done with the Force, you can return to your normal boring self by dragging your avatar to the centre. If you leave it as it is, the experience will last till 1 February 2016.

May The Force Be With You!
