The next time you feed your car with the best fuel (hint: Shell V-Power Racing) at a flagship Shell station, you’ll also get a chance to feed your soul with Chatime, llaollao and Gindaco. Thanks to an epic collaboration between Shell Malaysia and Loob Holding, Shell Select stores will deliver a new retail experience to road-going customers.

Welcome to Shell

The partnership is in line with Shell Malaysia’s three-year transformational program called ‘Welcome to Shell,’ which aims to bring the best hospitality on Malaysian roads and enhance the customer retail experience.

The ‘food oasis’ concept, launched recently, will roll out to over 30 Shell Select stores this year. Shell stations will no longer be destinations to fill up, but also a place to refresh and rejuvenate.

Previously, Shell Malaysia and Loob Holding have already inked an MoU to introduce Chatime to Shell Select outlets, with 11 already operational.

According to Ben Mahmud, head of retail marketing, Shell Malaysia, 90% of customers expressed during a survey conducted last year the important to have a place to sit and relax in the store. Shell has heeded this call, and delivering an enhanced experience to its customers.

Refuel, refresh, rejuvenate

If you didn’t know already, Loob Holding manages a portfolio of popular F&B brands in Malaysia including Chatime, Tino’s Pizza, Soda Xpress, llaollao frozen yoghurt, and Gindaco takoyaki.

Chatime is no stranger to the Malaysian consumer – an renowned international brand from Taiwan, serving its signature bubble tea. Llaollao on the other hand is the fastest-growing natural yoghurt brand from Spain that made its Malaysian debut last October. Gindaco, Japan’s No.1 premium takoyaki brand was only introduced to Malaysia shores in April this year.

Some Shell Select stations will host all three brands, complementing Shell’s own deli2go offerings. Aside from the Taman Connaught Select Store where the media launch was held, operations have also kicked off in 10 other locations in KL, Selangor, Penang, Perak, Kedah and Johor.

Shell also plans to upgrade over 100 stores this year in the mould of the new Shell Select concept – featuring seating lounges, complimentary Wi-Fi access, charge stations as well as upgraded restrooms and prayer rooms.

Loob-ing for more

Bryan Loo, managing director of Loob Holding says that he targets to launch 100 outlets at Shell Select stores by 2018, with 30 to roll out before end of the year.

He lamented that Loob Holding is constantly seeking strategic collaborations to grow its brands, and Shell Malaysia is an ideal partner, thanks to its strong 950-wide station network across the country.

Through its retail brands, it serves 2.5 million customers per month, and aims to hit 3.5 million customers monthly by 2018. Loob Holding looks to expand to the rest of Southeast Asia, to a potential consumer market of over 600 million people.

Well, the next time you refuel your car, remember to refuel yourself with bubble tea, fresh yoghurt, coffee and takoyaki, too!
