Shell Malaysia has launched new fuels–designed for ultimate efficiency. The new portfolio is powered by DYNAFLEX–a cutting-edge new formulation to clean, keep clean and protect engines for efficient running. Malaysia is one of the first countries in the world to roll-out the new fuels, after Hong Kong and Indonesia.

Shell said that the new fuels are a result of over five years, tens of thousands of hours of research and development, and three million kilometres of on-road testing with hundreds of vehicles.

One of the key reasons for a new fuel formulation is the coming of modern engines. Modern engines are smaller, more powerful. This poses challenges in terms of deposits. Deposits robs the engine of its true performance and may cause hotter running, higher engine load and higher pressure.

Deposits, bad. *illustration purposes only

So, DYNAFLEX tackles two things: deposits and friction. And as you know, carbon deposits and friction are bad for efficiency and performance.

In a conventional (port fuel injection) PFI engine, deposits can cause issues in all four engine cycles: intake, compression, combustion and exhaust.

At its grand in Kuala Lumpur, Shell explained that DYNAFLEX technology helps to clean and protect key fuel system components. This includes intake valves and fuel injectors.

How does DYNAFLEX work then?

To counter deposits, DYNAFLEX contains powerful Deposit Control Additives.

On the other hand, new Friction Modification Technology ensures components run silky smooth. This is especially crucial where it matters most – between pistons and the cylinder wall.

DYNAFLEX friction-reducing molecules form a robust film that can help reduce friction under a wider range of conditions. It is proven to be more effective than previous generation technology.

In Shell V-Power fuels specifically, DYNAFLEX helps remove up to 80% of deposits. To compare, Shell V-Power with DYNAFLEX contains 3x more cleaning molecules than Shell FuelSave.

Diesel vehicles are not left out. Shell FuelSave with DYNAFLEX now has new dirt-busting molecules for a cleaner, more efficient engine.

Tests have shown that diesel vehicles running new Shell FuelSave with DYNAFLEX experience significantly less deposit related power loss.

In summary, it’s all about efficiency. DYNAFLEX is now in the entire Shell fuel portfolio, never before done. This includes Shell FuelSave 95, Shell FuelSave Diesel, Shell FuelSave Diesel Euro 5, Shell V-Power 97 and Shell V-Power Racing.

How goes the Malaysian driver?

Interestingly, Shell recently undertook ground-breaking research to better understand Malaysian motorists. Yes, people like you and me.

The research was done in partnership with Goldsmiths, University of London and utilised the latest wearable technology with “emotion tracking”, GPS from the Shell Motorist App; weather and traffic information. More about research findings in the next post.

So, would like your recommendation between Euro 5 and the new dynaflex diesel. Which should I choose and why? I travel long distance most of the time with my isuzu vcross dmax.

    • Vernon Chan

Dynaflex is the new technology in all of Shell’s products. This includes Shell FuelSave Diesel and Shell FuelSave Diesel Euro 5.

Generally, all diesel vehicles will benefit from Dynaflex thanks to new dirt-busting molecules.

In general, Euro 5 diesel is a better, cleaner fuel for your engine (with or without Dynaflex).

      • Columba

Thank you so much for your reply. I can happily keep using euro 5 now onwards

        • Vernon Chan

No prob. You can and should use Euro 5 diesel because it’s the highest rated diesel fuel available anyways. Good for your car, and better for the environment. Cheers! 🙂
