A 37-man strong team of delegates led by Sarawak Minister of Public Utilities and Industrial Planning, Hon. Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Bin Ali, visited the Samsung Digital City in Suwon, Korea to promote Sarawak a a strategic location for the business community in Korea. The delegation had two main goals – to strengthen Sarawak’s timber market in Seoul, championed by the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) and to observe new developments in Korea, particularly the high tech sector.

The visit covered a company presentation by Samsung, a welcome speech by Heu Young-Ho, Advisor of Samsung Electronics in the Suwon Support Center, and a tour of Samsung Digital City’s Exhibition and History halls.

Malaysia and Korea have diplomatic ties since 1960. There are over 15,000 Koreans in Malaysia (2009 data) with over 2,000 living in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The Korean community consists of mostly expatriates in South Korean companies, students and increasingly, retirees under the Malayia My Second Home program.

The rest of the entourage consists of Hon. Datuk Haji Mohd. Naroden Haji Majais, Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Bumiputra Entrepreneur Development), and Hon. Datuk Peter Nansian Nguise, Assistant Minister of Industrial Development (Industrial Estate Development).

Samsung Identified as Leader in High Tech Sector, Presents Ideas to Malaysian Delegates

Kuala Lumpur, January 16, 2012 – On January 13, a team of delegates led by Sarawak Minister of Public Utilities and Industrial Planning, Hon. Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Bin Ali, paid a visit to the Samsung Digital City in Suwon, Korea, to promote Sarawak as a strategic location for the business community in Korea.

The delegation, named the ‘Sarawak Investment and Timber Selling Mission to Seoul’, is championed by the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC), and aims to strengthen Sarawak’s timber market in Seoul. Another aim for the visit to Suwon was to observe new developments in Korea – in particular, the high tech sector.

Hon. Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Bin Ali Hassan, who is also Second Minister of Resource Planning & Environment, and the Sarawak cum Chairman of STIDC Board of Management, was received by Mr. Heu Young-Ho, Advisor of Samsung Electronics in the Suwon Support Center.

The visit covered a company presentation by Samsung, a welcome speech by Mr. Heu, and a tour of Samsung Digital City’s Exhibition and History halls.
