Setting up and customising
Setting up out of the box is pretty straightforward. Plug in the Phantom then insert the included DVD driver installer and follow the onscreen instructions. Revelation: My rig does not have an optical drive installed (bought one but never got it installed). A quick restart of your rig and you’re good to go. I chose to download the latest driver from the Armaggeddon support site to ensure I had the latest.

The Phantom’s claim to fame is its ultimate customisability. Power up the Phantom software and you can start setting up your profile with 11 macros available (6 buttons with 5 scripts each). You can even share saved profiles by exporting desired scripts or import scripts to improve your gaming experience. Neat.

You can customise your Phantom with lighting effects, intensity and pulsating levels (up to 24 lighting colours). So, go crazy why don’t you.

For further fine-tuning you can set mouse sensitivity, polling rate, mouse speed, scroll speed, double-click speed and have these saved in Profiles that you can access to later.

Performance
For input devices, I’d rate comfort, durability and accuracy highly. The Phantom delivers on all accounts. It’s ergonomically sound, making long hours of gaming pleasurable and less taxing on the hand.

Buttons are tactile and offer great feedback. I find the 4-way scroll accurate, as in general input of the device. Being able to adjust CPI by just flipping the switch is a huge plus.

I also like the fact that I can customise the weight of the mouse according to preference and different types of game genres.

While it’s a gaming mouse, it would feel totally at home with general computing and work.

  • Solid build, ergonomic design
  • Comfortable and reassuringly non-slip for long hour usage
  • Very tactile buttons
  • Long 1.8m cord
  • Highly customisable
  • High performance tracking, accurate
  • Weight management

Pricing and availability

In summary
Its quirky styling aside, it’s difficult to find fault in the Armaggeddon Phantom. As a gaming mouse it delivers as promised. It’s rock solid, highly durable and built to last. Its high customisability would appeal to even the hardcore, backed by a solid 2-year warranty and good price tag.

Game on!
