PROTON records stellar June sales

Fuelled by its flagship X70 premium SUV, PROTON announced today that it sold 7,615 units of vehicles for the month of June, the second highest sales figure this year, following a record-breaking month of May (10,611 units). Its overall market share rose to 18.1 percent in June 2019, its highest since July 2015.

Director of marketing at PROTON, Cheng Seng Fook said in his keynote to media earlier today, sales were 23 percent higher than the year-ago month. This while the rest of the competition recording negative growth for the month.

The strong June performance contributed to an overall sales growth of 61 percent for the first half of 2019, which puts the company on track to achieve its 2019 sales targets.

Despite traditionally slower sales after the Hari Raya holidays, PROTON showed encouraging performance led by the X70 SUV. The class-leading SUV pushed some 15,715 units in the first half of the year.

This is complemented by its PIES lineup—2019 Persona, 2019 Iriz, 2019 Exora and Saga, which contributed 78 percent of overall sales. The iconic Saga continues to show strong numbers with 2,541 units sold in June. The refreshed Persona, Iriz and Exora returned 108 percent, 180 percent and 135 percent growth respectively (compared to 2018 average bookings).

PROTON’s overall market share, year-to-date stands at 14.7 percent, a big improvement from the company’s 2018 figure of 10.8 percent.

Cheong also touched on the expansion of the brand’s customer touchpoints—now with 91 3S/4S outlets nationwide. The target is for PROTON to be the leader in Sales Satisfaction Index (SSI) and Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI).
