Book the 2019 Proton Iriz for just MYR9.99

2019 Proton Iriz

Emulating the strategy for its SUV, the Proton X70, Proton is offering booking of its facelifted Iriz hatchback for less than a cup of Starbucks latte – MYR9.99. The flash promotion runs from now until 11.59PM on 11 March 2019.

That’s not all. If you make an online booking prior to its official launch, you’ll also be rewarded with free road tax for a period of two years. According to Proton CEO Dr Li Chunrong, the move is to make the Iriz accessible to more potential buyers.

The Iriz was unveiled last Thursday to the media at a preview session.

2019 Proton IrizThe 2019 Iriz takes design cues from the Proton X70, with the front getting an “ethereal bow” grille that is highlighted in chrome. You’ll notice an infinite weave pattern that’s also featured on the X70. The front bumper houses slim LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs).

From the side, the Iriz exudes a similar silhouette as its predecessor, with addition of new 15-inch two-tone multi-spoke alloy wheels.

In the cockpit, the Iriz gets a new seven-inch head unit that now offers voice commands for navigation, music, weather and more. You call upon the voice assistant, similarly with the X70, “Hi Proton.” However, the system lacks control over power windows and air-con, unlike the X70.

Other enhancements include a new full-colour multi-info display in the instrument cluster, with  new-look analogue gauges.

Under the hood, powertrains remain unchanged from previous although Proton claims they have been recalibrated for better fuel economy. The two powerplants are the 1.3L four-cylinder VVT (94bhp @ 5,750rpm and 120Nm of torque @ 4,000rpm) and 1.6L (107bhp @ 5,750rpm and 150Nm of torque @ 4,000rpm).

These are mated to either five-speed manual or CVT transmissions.

2019 Proton IrizProton claims to have improved NVH and braking performance on the new Iriz.

Safety wise, the Iriz boasts a 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating, offering up to

In summary, there are five variants of the Iriz: Standard 1.3l MT, Standard 1.3L CVT, Executive 1.3L CVT, Executive 1.6L CVT, and Premium 1.6L CVT.

Colour options include Snow White, Jet Grey, Armour Silver, Ocean Blue, and Ruby Red.

No pricing details as yet, but you’re welcomed to blind book it anyways. After all, it’s only MYR9.99!
