When it comes to design and aesthetics, how appealing a product is can boil down to individual tastes. A fine example would be the pronounced “halo” camera bump on the new Mate 30 series. Love it or hate it, I’m certain it has the world divided. Personally, I prefer the design of the Mate 20, but hey, to each his own, right?
Ah, but then, there’s the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 30 RS. Launched alongside the regular Mate 30 and the Mate 30 Pro, the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 30 RS (yes, it’s a mouthful), couldn’t be more distinct from the main family tree.
Now the fifth device to emerge from Huawei’s partnership with the renowned design outfit, the premium edition model continues to set the standard for cutting-edge technology, craftsmanship and aesthetics.
The Porsche Design Huawei Mate 30 RS shares its underpinnings with the Mate 30 Pro—which means all the good stuff. This includes the latest 7nm+ Kirin 990 chipset, the world’s first SoC integrated with a 5G chip that includes both 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) and Standalone (SA) modes.
It comes with a whopping 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
The display on the device is a 6.53-inch QHD+ Flex OLED panel with a notch that houses a sophisticated array of cameras and sensors.
It gets a massive 4,500mAh battery that supports 40W Huawei SuperCharge and 27W Wireless SuperCharge that’s German TUV Safe Fast-Charge System Certified. There’s reverse wireless charging that’s now two times faster than the first generation.
In the optics department, the quad-camera system is also shared with the Mate 30 Pro. This includes the new SuperSensing Cine Camera system embedded into a streamline design. It includes a 40MP Cine Camera, a 40MP SuperSensing Camera, an 8MP telephoto camera, and a 3D Depth Sensing Camera.
The new cutting-edge camera system introduces new improved Ultra Low-Light mode even on the ultra-wide-angle lens, Night Time video, 7,680fps Ultra Slow-Motion Video, 4K Timelapse, and more.
The Porsche Design Huawei Mate 30 RS runs EMUI10 based on Android 10.
All that said, the biggest appeal of the new Porsche Design model has to be the design and its exquisite craftsmanship, deservingly of the iconic name. The Black and Red theme is reminiscent of Porsche’s iconic sports cars, and colours synonymous with power and speed.
It features handmade premium leather engraving the vertical glass stripe on the back. It’s both sleek and sophisticated with the aerodynamic curves of the body giving you an ergonomic grip. The handcrafted semi-aniline top grain leather is also soft yet highly durable.
Priced at EUR2,075 (MYR9,610), granted, the premium smartphone isn’t for everyone. However, the flagship device will certainly appeal to discerning customers who have a taste for Porsche Design’s signature aesthetics and craftsmanship, as well as Huawei’s state-of-the-art technologies.
