Poco X3 NFC: The new mid-range champion

Poco X3 NFC

Poco may have just outdone themselves, again. The just-launched Poco X3 NFC throws everything in but the kitchen sink, in true Xiaomi style. Screaming performance in an attractive package, prices start from just MYR899 and will be available in Malaysia from 9 September 2020 onwards. Malaysia is one of the first markets in the world to receive the device.

Making a debut is Qualcomm’s latest and most powerful 700-series 4G processor—the Snapdragon 732G, an uprated version of the 720G. The Kyro 470-based octa-core chips pairs with the Adreno 618 Elite Gaming series GPU. The device offers 6GB of LPDDR4X memory and up to 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage.

It’s no secret that Poco is targeting mobile gamers on a budget here.

Budget or not, it’s certainly not entry-level in terms of specs and performance.

Keeping things cool is Poco’s proprietary LiquidCool Technology 1.0 Plus featuring an enlarged copper heat pipe with multiple layers of graphite, delivering up to 6C of temperature reduction.

Pushing gaming performance further is Game Turbo 3.0—the software utility that optimises the phone according to game requirements. Additionally, the phone’s Z-axis linear motor offers superb haptic feedback, offering over 150 vibration modes for different scenarios.

Impressively at its price point, the Poco X3 NFC rocks a 6.67-inch FHD+ DotDisplay that’s boasts a 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate.

With DynamicSwitch, it can automatically switch between 50, 60, 90 and 120Hz depending on use case to optimise battery life.

The 240Hz touch sampling rate helps the phone punch way above its class, boasting 33 per cent faster touch response than most flagships in the market today.

The device also features a pair of flagship-grade stereo speakers comprising a 4cc-equivalent upper speaker and 1cc-equivalent lower speaker, with up to 0.5mm vibration amplitude for crystal clear stereo sound.

What’s cool is the speakers’ ability to self-clean by ejecting dust and particles at a touch of a button.

While it excels in gaming, the Poco X3 NFC does not slack in the camera department either. It packs a quad-cam system consisting of a 64MP f/1.89 (Sony IMX682) shooter paired with a 6P lens, a 13MP ultra-wide angle f/2.2 camera (119 FoV), 2MP f/2.4 macro sensor, and 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor.

The camera is capable of up to 4K 30fps video recording and includes tricks such as AI Skyscaping 3.0 and Night Mode; also a slew of creative features including six kaleidoscope options, Gold vibes mode, Cyberpunk mode, and several new filters.

The front camera is a 20MP 4-in-1 Super Pixel in-display front facing shooter featuring a f/2.2 aperture lens.

Keeping the device juiced is a large 5,160mAh battery that can last over two days. The device supports 33W fast charging—taking only 65 minutes to fully charge from zero per cent. The increased charging speed is achieved through Middle Middle Tab (MMT) technology, an innovate method where the battery receives the electric current from the middle and spreads it simultaneously to the top and bottom of the cell.

Other useful extras include an IR blaster, multi-function NFC, as well as a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

The Poco X3 NFC runs MIUI 12 based on Android 10 out-of-the-box, with Poco UI on top.

The Poco X3 retails for MYR899 for the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage model and MYR1,099 for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model. It comes in Cobalt Blue and Shadow Gray.
