Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong Limited (“SCEH”) Singapore Branch has officially unveiled the much-anticipated PlayStation 4 (PS4) in Malaysia, and will be available nation-wide from 20 December 2013 at a suggested retail price of RM1,799. Pre-orders start from 15 November until 13 December 2013.
The media launch event was held at Play @ The Roof, First Avenue and was graced by Hiroyuki Oda, Deputy President of Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia; Yutaka Yokokawa of WWS Japan Studio, Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc; and Phillip Ring, Senior Producer of TT Games.
The PS4 is a next generation entertainment system with outstanding graphics performance powered by AMD – packing a 64-bit AMD ‘Jaguar’ custom processor running at an estimated base clock speed of 1.6Ghz (up to 2.75Ghz) made with 28nm manufacturing process. The Radeon-based graphics engine features 1,152 GPU cores with 8GB GDDR5 running at a frequency of 5.5Ghz. Graphics performance gains over the PS3 is 10x.
Graphics aside, the PS4 features deeply integrated social capabilities and innovative second-screen features utilising external devices like the PlayStation Vita (PS Vita). With the PS Camera, gaming experience on the PS4 has a new dimension and immersive value.
Hiroyuki Oda demonstrated “The Playroom”, an Augmented Reality environment preinstalled on all PS4 units. Oda showed how the new DualShock 4 controller enables a user to interact with characters onscreen using motion control.
On launch day, SCEH will be offering three different bundle sets, each consisting a PS4 system and a selected PS4 title, or PS Camera.
Additionally, a wide range of peripherals for PS4 will be available including colour variations for PS4 Wireless Controller (DualShock 4) in “Magma Red” and “Wave Blue”, PlayStation Camera, DualShock 4 Charging Station and PS4 Vertical Stand.

Twenty-three launch frame titles from SCE World Wide Studios (“SCE WWS”) and third part software developers and publishers globally. Phillip Ring from TT Games demonstrated the immersive and open-world LEGO Marvel Superheroes, keeping the crowd entertained. Certainly a title to be purchased and enjoyed!
SCEH has selected the epic “Battlefield 4” (Electronic Arts, Inc) and Killzone: Shadow Fall (SCE) to be part of PS4 bundle sets.
Importantly, SCEH announced a new regional warranty service for six South East Asian countries in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. PS4 owners will get one year free regional repair service in countries where the product is officially launched (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia).
Pre-orders for the new PS4 starts 15 November until 13 December 2013, at Sony Stores, Sony Store Online or Focus Stores. SCEH is throwing in goodies for those who pre-order – customers who pre-order will receive up to 2-month PlayStation Plus membership and RM20 PSN Money Voucher.
Sony also launched the new PS Vita 2000 and PS Vita TV.
