P1 4G Offers One Plan Broadband Bundle

P1 4G just launched a new broadband bundled plan called One Plan last week which combines a static home connection with an on-the-go wireless option. The plan is designed to offer convenient 4G broadband service with a single broadband provider and one bill only.

Growth of wireless broadband usage via dongles has increased over 90% year-on-year, according to statistics.

“The P1 4G One Plan primarily aims to provide our users with great indoor and on-the-go 4G broadband experience with the appropriate devices. It also offers one of the highest usage quotas in the market today with up to 30GB per month. Best of all, P1 One Plan is the most affordably priced package that fulfills every lifestyle need,” said Michael Lai, CEO of P1.

A study conducted by Frost & Sullivan on Malaysian broadband behavior revealed that less than 10 percent of on-the-go modem users correctly utilise the device for on-the-go broadband while almost 50 percent of subscribers use their on-the-go modems exclusively at home. I can attest to this, not having a static, traditional ‘wired’ broadband connection at home currently, resolving to using wireless broadband modems and smartphone tethering.

When quizzed during a special media event last week, P1 4G COO Idham Nawawi responded that P1 are targeting as many new users as possible, subscribers of other telcos and current dongle users. He also expects current subscribers to opt for the One Plan.

The quirky ad campaign aside (still not sure what the two characters are about!), the One Plan is attractive, with packages starting from as low as RM89 per month. For high usage subscribers (average broadband customer uses 12GB per month), a RM169 plan with a usage quota of 30GB is offered. Upload speeds are reportedly half of download speeds. Nawawi also added that when subscribers exceed, they can still use the service at no extra charge, but speeds are throttled down to 128kbps. A special Add-on Quota option is offered at just RM10 per 2GBs.

Subscribers of the One Plan will also be able to access to over 1,500 WirelessKL hotspots around the Klang Valley.

Personally I may be looking to test this service out either at home or the office. The RM169 plan seems doable, with 5Mbps downloads and 30GB quota. My personal experience with the SuperWiggy (U-235) has been very positive, with service available even on the 10th floor of my apartment which I declare “a telecommunications blackhole”. Have enjoyed good, consistent speeds although coverage in certain areas are still spotty.

Will post my findings when ready. Oh, expect MiFi devices some time in the future. Hope it’s sooner rather than later 🙂

P1 launches One Plan broadband bundle for home and on-the-go

Petaling Jaya – Packet One Networks (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (“P1”), Malaysia’s first and leading 4G wireless broadband service provider launched a new broadband bundle plan called the One Plan today that offers an all-round improved broadband experience to its users.

The One Plan is a 2-in-1 broadband bundle that comes with a powerful P1 4G modem with WiFi and a nifty P1 4G on-the-go modem with shared quota at the most attractive price point in the market. The One Plan came about from P1’s findings in a consumer study conducted by Frost & Sullivan on Malaysian broadband behavior. The study indicated that only 7 percent of on-the-go modem users correctly utilize the device for on-the-go broadband while as many as 45 percent of subscribers use their on-the-go modems exclusively at home. The remaining 48 percent is split using their modems for both home and on-the-go.

According to Lai, most people are not aware that an on-the-go modem is not optimized for outdoor usage. Being a much smaller hence more convenient device to carry around, an on-the-go modem is best suited for outdoors. As wireless broadband signal travels through air, it inherently becomes weaker as it penetrates walls and may not be optimally received by the smaller antenna of a pocket-sized modem. He said, “By using the devices according to their functions, consumers will have better 4G broadband experience.

Wireless broadband demand has been growing stronger over the past three years. However, P1’s consumer study shows that growth in this segment is not just influenced by the influx of mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, but consumers’ preference for the on-the-go modem because it offers the flexibility of being ‘portable.’

“Our customer needs is our number one priority and we will continue to engage with them to learn, understand and serve those needs faster and to our best ability,” Lai concluded.
