It looks like OPPO is introducing yet another R7 variant – this time the OPPO R7s. The new addition is set to debut on 18 October in Dubai, at the GITEX (Gulf Information Technology Exhibition). The OPPO R7s now joins the R7, R7 Plus and R7 Lite in the OPPO flagship range.
The China smartphone maker hasn’t shed much light on details, but said “The R7s will offer consumers a bigger battery, a large screen and double the storage space of the R7, all the while boasting the full-metal unibody and stellar photo-taking capabilities of its predecessor.”
The OPPO R7s is set to feature a 5.5-inch Fulll HD (1920x1080p) AMOLED display and will be powered by the familiar Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC clocked at 1.5GHz. This will be coupled with 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage.
It will sport similar 13MP rear camera with LED flash and an 8MP front-facing camera.
The spec sheet seems a carbon copy of the R7 aside from the display size and storage, and will be backed by a massive 4,100mAh battery.
The OPPO R7s weighs a hefty 200g and measures 6.7mm thin.
It will run ColorOS 2.1 on top of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
Pricing and availability
No details on pricing or availability just yet. For general info, the R7 sells at RM1,598, R7 Plus at RM1,998 and the R7 Lite retails at RM1,298.
It’s a odd move to introduce yet another variant that shares much of its underpinnings with the rest of the family. But perhaps OPPO is employing a similar strategy like ASUS with its ZenFone family or Samsung’s GALAXY line of devices where each is clearly targeted at different screen size preferences and price points.
