OPPO‘s latest selfie-centric smartphone – the OPPO F9 officially lands in Malaysia after a plethora of controlled leaks over the past few weeks. The sixth-generation F series device features some standout features including a new full screen display with the tiniest notch ever, beautiful gradient design, powerful cameras and VOOC flash charge technology.
While the new OPPO F9 continues to harp on its selfie and photography capabilities, let’s not ignore the fact that it’s not since the F1 Plus that an OPPO F series device integrates VOOC flash charge.
VOOC, as you may know, is OPPO’s breakthrough rapid charging technology. OPPO claims a five minute charge will give you two hours of talktime. But who talks nowadays? Let’s just take a selfie!
On a serious note, VOOC is impressive. It delivers four times the speed of regular 5V1A charging.
Importantly, VOOC employs an intelligent five-layer protection system from the power brick to the port to the phone. VOOC prevents overcharging and overheating while charging, ensuring peace of mind.
For those who hate notch displays (like me), you’ll be delighted to know the OPPO F9 has the smallest ever notch on the current crop of smartphones.
The execution is similar to the Essential Phone and Wiko View2 Pro.

The display itself is a 6.3-inch bezel-less screen offering FHD+ resolution (2340×1080) with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. It delivers an amazing 90.8 percent screen-to-body ratio. Not quite Find X level, but still super impressive.
In terms of design, the device isn’t a huge departure from the OPPO R15 Pro. It’s curvy, sleek and features some snazzy new gradient colours – Sunrise Red, Twilight Blue and Starry Purple.
Under the hood, the phone packs a Mediatek Helio P60 chipset with 6GB RAM and 64GB of storage.
What’s cool is that the dual-SIM device features a triple-card slot, letting you upgrade storage via microSD without sacrificing a SIM slot.
In the camera stakes, OPPO continues to offer a big selfie shooter – a 25MP F/2.0 with Sensor HDR and AI Beauty technology.
On the rear, the OPPO F9 offers a 16MP + 2MP dual-camera setup with AI Scene Recognition.
The OPPO F9 runs ColorOS 5.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo.
Pricing and availability
The OPPO F9 retails for MYR1,399 and will be available for pre-order from 16 August until 29 August at the official OPPO Online Store, OPPO Concept Stores, authorised OPPO retailers, Lazada, Shopee and 11street, as well as retail partners like Celcom Blue Cube, Senheng and SenQ.
Pre-order customers can collect their orders on first sales day which falls on 30 August 2018.
