If selfies are your thing, then the “Selfie Expert” has a new weapon for you. After weeks of teasing and leaks, OPPO Malaysia has unleashed its latest OPPO F5 smartphone in Malaysia. It’s also OPPO’s first device to feature an all-screen 18:9 “Full View” display as well as its proprietary AI Beauty Recognition technology. Malaysia’s #2 smartphone brand is also touting its Facial Unlock feature.
The selfie expert is reinventing the art of selfies by making more natural, hence its tagline “Capturing the real you.” This is made possible by its AI Beauty Recognition system that’s designed to enhance your selfies naturally by analysing skin tone, skin type, gender and age and referring to a global image database of human faces. Sounds a little familiar, but I must say looks to work very well.

As mentioned, it also features “Facial Unlock,” which is an alternative unlocking method to the existing fingerprint sensor. OPPO claims it’s fast, and I’m eager to have a test shortly.
With the OPPO F5, the company finally gets into the Full View display game. It gets a 6-inch 18:9 FHD+ display and ultrathin bezels. Having very thin bezels means that the F5 is visually slim with no cut-offs, making it very comfortable in the hand.
The device is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P23 chip with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage with a micro-SD card slot for storage expansion. OPPO mentioned that it will bringing in the “Lite” version called the OPPO F5 Youth and top end 6GB RAM + 64GB storage version soon.
The crown jewels are the 20MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture, and 16MP rear camera with f/1.8 aperture. The cameras can deliver Bokeh effects as well as the added advantage of front-camera HDR.
Battery size for the F5 is a 3,200mAh power plant with a ‘Continuous Optimizing’ which manages the usage of the running apps, giving users up to 12 hours of continuous use.
OPPO also announced a collaboration with Garena‘s “Arena of Valor,” a real-time 5v5 mobile MOBA game. Buyers of the OPPO F5 will get a free Joker in-game character and this will happen soon.
The latest device runs ColorOS3.2 based on Android Nougat.
