Maxis NeXT X1 smartphone all-in-one bundle for MYR98/month

Maxis NeXT X1

Maxis has taken the wraps of a new addition to its NeXT device portfolio—the NeXT X1. This follows the well-received NeXT M1 introduced earlier this year. The unique all-in-one package gives you the smartphone, mobile plan and extended warranty for just MYR98 per month. Maxis also introduced Scha Alyahya as the official ambassador for the new device.

When Maxis rolled out the NeXT M1 earlier this year, its first ever self-branded device, it took a cautious approach, and as a “learning” experience. It bundled a neatly-packaged mid-range device with a 4G mobile plan and some nifty extras for an affordable MYR78 per month.

Targeted at first time smartphone owners and the general consumer alike, Maxis said the NeXT M1 was “well-received.”

The brand new NeXT X1 isn’t a replacement for the original NeXT M1, but rather a complement to the line-up, and for those who want a slightly better phone.

Getting started with a smartphone

The mobile plan itself is more than decent to get anyone started. Called the Postpaid Starter Plan, it bundles 6GB of high-speed 4G data (3GB all-day + 3GB weekend), 50 free call minutes with option to boost data using attractive internet boosters starting from MYR4 per GB.

The all-in-one package also included an “Ultimate Care” package that gives you “ultimate” peace-of-mind. This consists of an unprecedented 24-month extended warranty with one-to-one device exchange, and 12-month screen protection.

The all-in-one-plan costs MYR98 per month and is based on a 24-month contract.

Maxis NeXT X1

The NeXT X1 device is surprisingly well-built, even better than its predecessor the NeXT M1. It comes in a slim, metal body and a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display protected by Asahi Dragontrail Glass. Built by ZTE, it’s a single-SIM device running Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box.

Maxis has assured the device will get Android Oreo when it becomes available later.

Under the hood, the X1 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 with Adreno 505 graphics, mated to 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. There’s an option to upgrade storage via microSD (up to 128GB).

On the camera front, it rocks a 16MP main shooter with autofocus and LED flash, and on the front it comes with an able 8MP shooter.

Based on first impressions, both a pretty snappy off the bat.

The NeXT X1 comes with a fast-charging 3,000mAh battery which charges up via microUSB.
