World’s most powerful phone is now in Malaysia

OnePlus 7 Pro Blue

Just last week, the smartphone world saw a brand “grow up.” OnePlus, long the underdog taking on the mainstream big guns, officially joined the Big Boys Club. At least in terms of specifications and pricing. The coming of the new OnePlus 7 family, in one fail swoop, catapults the brand into real flagship territory currently dominated by the likes of Samsung, Huawei and Apple. Malaysians again, are a lucky lot, because the OnePlus 7 Pro is now ready for pre-order with the phone estimated to hit retail shelves on 30 May 2019.

The OnePlus Pro is offered in three configurations:

  • OnePlus 7 Pro (Mirror Grey) — 6GB RAM, 128GB storage — MYR2,999
  • OnePlus 7 Pro (Mirror Grey & Nebula Blue) — 8GB RAM, 256GB storage — MYR3,699
  • OnePlus 7 Pro (Nebula Blue) — 12GB RAM, 256GB storage — MYR4,199

The OnePlus 7 Pro is available for pre-order now, and if you pre-order from Shopee, you’re entitled to free gifts including a pair of OnePlus Bullets Wireless in-ear headphones and a MYR200 Shopee voucher.

OnePlus 7 is now distributed by XianFeng Technology, previously Mi Han.

As a refresher, the OnePlus 7 Pro is the most powerful and biggest smartphone OnePlus has ever made. It’s in fact, the most powerful smartphone in the world, for now.

It packs a 6.67-inch QHD+ Fluid AMOLED display that boasts 93 percent screen-to-body ratio. The curved panel has a fluid 90Hz refresh rate, features HDR10+ support and pushes a maximum of 800 nits of brightness. The folks at DisplayMate are impressed too, who gave it a big A+ thumbs up.

What makes the incredible near-bezel-less display possible is the integration of a pop-up selfie camera ala the vivo NEX. The 16Mp shooter takes just 0.53 seconds from activation to elevation.

The OnePlus 7 Pro also gets the best camera setup ever on a OnePlus device. The new camera system has propelled the phone up the ranks in DxOMark Mobile benchmarks, scoring 111 points overall to put it in second place behind tied champions Huawei P30 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G. That’s quite a feat.

It features a triple camera system on the back–a 48MP f/1.6 main shooter (Sony IMX586 sensor) with OIS; 8MP f/2.4 telephoto camera (3X optical zoom) with OIS; and 16MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle lens (117-degree FOV).

Under the hood, the phone packs a 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, which 45 percent faster and consumes 20 percent less power than its predecessor. The SoC is coupled with a powerful Adreno 640 GPU.

Pushing the performance envelope further is the use of UFS 3.0 mobile storage technology – the latest and fastest available.

The phone boasts a 10-layer cooling system and power is supplied by a large 4,000mAh battery. It supports Warp Charge rapid charging technology.

The device also gets stereo speakers enhanced by Dolby Atmos.

What’s missing is an IP-rating, wireless charging or 3.5mm headphone jack.

The OnePlus 7 Pro runs Oxygen 9.5 based on Android 9 Pie.
