As we deducted from the press invite graphic last week, Microsoft today unveiled the new Lumia 930 aka Lumia Icon to the Malaysian market. The Lumia 930 crams a fantastic imaging experience and top-of-the-line hardware specs into a sexy matte polycarbonate body with an aluminum chassis.

The Lumia 930 takes a departure off the Lumia 925 and latest Lumia 1520 rounder design language, instead has a sharper, rectangular edge. The 5-incher is more pocketable than the gargantuan phablet, the Lumia 1520, although isn’t exactly one you’d describe as thin or light. It measures at 9.38mm thin, and weighs in at 167g. While I like the matte black, I think the white looks best.

The 5-inch panel is brilliant as you’d expect from a flagship Nokia device – a Full HD OLED display (@ 441PPI) with Nokia ClearBlack Technology and Sunlight Readability, protected assuringly by Gorilla Glass 3. Nokia claims this is the brightest display available on a smartphone.

In terms of processor platform, it shares similar underpinnings to the Lumia 1520 – quad-core 2.2Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 with 2GB RAM and 32GB internal memory. Disappointingly, storage is non-expandable, so no micro-SD slot.

Camera optics is something the Lumia range is renowned for, and with the Lumia Icon, a 20MP PureView camera with Zeiss optics comes integrated. The main camera features 6-lens optics, backside-illuminated image sensor with a sensor size of 1/2.5 inch. A dual LED flash supports the camera module, promising some seriously high-res photos.

The Lumia 930 supports multi-band LTE (4, 13), WCDMA, CDMA and GSM radios. Other connectivity features include micro-USB, 3.5mm audio connector, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and NFC.

The new flagship will come with a 2,420mAh battery with built-in wireless charging support (Qi standard).

Windows Phone 8.1 will come pre-installed as well as a portfolio of Nokia apps including HERE Drive, Here Maps, HERE Transit, Nokia MixRadio, OneDrive, X-Box Live and more.

Pricing and availability

The Nokia Lumia 930 will be available starting next week for RM1,999 (SRP).

For a limited time only, the Lumia 930 is available for pre-order at Plaza Low Yat starting 30 June to 6 July 2014. The phone will be bundled with Nokia Treasure Tag, 4400mAh power bank and flip cover.
