So it’s official. Sony unleashes its best of the best smartphone to the world – the Xperia Z2. As one of the most leaked and talked about devices of the 2014 Mobile World Congress (MWC), the Xperia Z2 doesn’t disappoint. Packing some of the best hardware that money can buy, the Xperia Z2 will also come with Android 4.4 Kit Kat on board.
Design-wise, the Xperia Z2 does not run away from the svelte OmniBalance design language of the Z1, and in fact also occupies a similar footprint.
The Xperia Z2 uses a new 5.2-inch IPS display called Live Color LED offering better contrast and colour fidelity while retaining its resolution of 1920 x 1080p. It was previously rumoured that Sony may use a high-res 2K display.
Powering the new flagship is a quad-core 2.3Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 with 3GB of RAM and also comes with a massive 3200mAh battery.

As with its previous flagship devices, the Xperia Z2 is both dust- and water-resistant (IP58) and includes a dedicated camera key.
The Xperia Z2 retains the 20.7MP main shooter with a new SteadyShot feature adapted from Sony’s own Handycam line, enabling 4K video capture. Built-in SteadyShot technology reduces jitter and imperfections of handheld video.
The Xperia Z2 will be available globally from March in a choice of black, white or purple.
I’m expecting the Xperia Z2 and the Xperia Z2 Tablet to be officially introduced at the Sony regional media event happening in Jakarta on March 5.
