Must watch CNY 2018 video: Interview with Ah Huat the lion

Chinese New Year looms, and you know what that means. Chinese New Year tunes, mandarin oranges, fireworks, red everything and the much-loved lion dance. But have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a lion? The seemingly untiring lion is expected to bring prosperity anytime, anywhere. It’s “siong” (tough), without a doubt.

This year we can all give Ah Huat a break. Also, he can’t be there for everyone all the time. Thanks to the Maxis HuatAR app, you’ll be able to enjoy and interact with a live lion dance wherever you are.

All you need to do is download the app for Android or iOS, get a Maxis HuatAR ang pao from Maxis stores and scan it with your smartphone.

Maxis HuatAR

The Maxis HuatAR Ang Paos come in a set of three different designs that brings different characters to life.

To qualify for a free set, just purchase any device or accessory at your nearest Maxis Centre.

The app itself is pretty cool. Scan the ang pao from the app, and a friendly lion will appear and dance for you. You can set off firecrackers (he loves it!), feed it oranges or summon a mini Ah Huat who will dance wherever you want it to.

You can snap pictures or save videos to share.

Huat ah!
