I get you. It’s 2AM. Hunger pangs strike. The fridge echoes of emptiness. What do you do? You pick up your mobile phone, fire up the McDonald’s mobile app and order a Big Mac. And some fries. Right?
McDonald’s Malaysia today made a couple of big announcements. Firstly, the expansion of its McDelivery network. The leading global foodservice retailer also announced its new McDonald’s mobile app and a strategic partnership with food delivery service, foodpanda.
The expansion of McDelivery was a result of the increase in demand, as consumers behaviour and lifestyle change in the ever-evolving business landscape.
Malaysians these days may find it difficult to go out for meals because of their hectic schedules. With an expansive delivery network that works round the clock, consumers have an option to where and how they can enjoy their favourite meals.
McDonald’s aims to widen its network to 310 delivery points by year end. It said that from January to June 2018, it grew 80 percent compared to the same period last year. The company currently has 269 delivery points for McDelivery.
The company has set its sights on capturing 30 percent of the delivery market with 1,000 delivery points by 2021, up from 103 points and 10 percent market share in 2017.
The long term strategy is to equip at least 90 percent of McDonald’s restaurants with McDelivery services by 2025.
The company first started the McDelivery service in 2006 with a call centre. Six years later, it introduced online ordering.
The strategic partnership with foodpanda will extend the reach of McDelivery nationwide, penetrating new areas through foodpanda’s vast delivery network.
With the tie-up, McDonald’s is now foodpanda’s largest partner.
McDonald’s is setting its sights on more collaborations with third party operators in the future.
The new McDonald’s mobile app is now available for download for both Android and iOS devices. It’s more than just an app to place a food order. There’s now more features like daily exclusive offers and promos, booking function for birthday parties, a restaurant locator, job application function, latest news and information on McDonald’s, as well as a customer feedback function.
For a limited time, you can enjoy a free McChicken burger when you register for a new account.
Note that the main McDonald’s mobile app is separate from the delivery-focused McDelivery app. The silo-ed McDelivery app will eventually be phased out.
