The devastating earthquake that hit Ranau, Sabah in June this year saw Malaysians come together to ease burden of victims. The unsung heroes – the brave mountain guides – were hard hit, with their livelihoods impacted by the tragedy. Maxis has stepped in to help in conjunction with festive celebrations.

About 250 members of the Mount Kinabalu Guides Association and their families were Guests-of-Honour at a Christmas event held at Kinabalu Park, Kundasang.

Maxis gave out school uniforms to 100 members with school-going children. That wasn’t all, a MYR10,000 donation was contributed to the Association. Melvin Jeffrine Mojinun, Maxis Head of Sabah Region, presented the cheque to the Association’s Chairman, Richard Soibi.

According to Richard, Maxis is the first company to extended contribution to children of the association’s members.

In July, Maxis also distributed 20 units of 400-gallon water tanks to earthquake victims in 10 villages in Kundasang.

My heart goes out to the victims of the Sabah quake, and a salute to the brave mountain guides.
