Maxis expands fibre footprint in Sabah

Maxis partners CT Sabah

Come 1 November 2019, more people in Sabah will be able to enjoy greater access to fibre broadband connectivity thanks to a partnership between Maxis and Celcom Timur Sdn Bhd (“CT Sabah”). The partnership will give Maxis full access to CT Sabah’s fibre optic network and enable the telco to offer high-speed broadband services to end-users at attractive rates.

Maxis will also leverage on CT Sabah’s existing infrastructure and services, including latest hardware and software on a 24/7 network monitoring system. Additionally, Maxis will have access to CT Sabah’s dedicated technical support staff to assist customers in managing network transmission, with a current average Mean Time to Restore (MTTR) of within two hours.

The agreement with CT Sabah is the third major HSBB Access Agreement that Maxis has signed after Telekom Malaysia (TM) and SACOFA.

In December 2018, Maxis signed a Letter of Understanding with SACOFA for High Speed Broadband (HSBB) Network Services in Sarawak. Since then, Maxis and SACOFA have signed access agreements to expand its fibre footprint further; having rolled out its available fibre plans to more Sarawakians.

Maxis fibre broadband journey began in 2011, riding on TM’s unifi backbone. Since then it has built its own fibre network while also signing access agreements with other providers.

August 2018 marked a major milestone for Maxis as it rolled out its Fibrenation campaign that offered the most affordable fibre broadband plans in the country. With up to 65 percent cheaper than previous plans, it kickstarted a new era of accessible and affordable broadband connectivity for homes and businesses.

This year in April, Maxis pushed the envelope further with 300Mbps, 500Mbps and 800Mbps offerings for consumers and businesses.
